Salem Sue, the World's
Largest Holstein Cow
New Salem, North Dakota
Jerry and Mary (that's Pa and Ma to me) and Salem Sue,
a 38-foot, 12,000-pound Holstein.
According to the plaque in front:
"Salem Sue was erected in 1974 at a cost of nearly
$40,000.00 contributed by dairymen, farmers, businessmen, the dairy industry
and area residents. The New Salem Lions organized the project, and the club
continues to maintain the site.
The New Salem High School athletic teams boast the name
"Holsteins" as a tribute to the area's dairy industry.
New Salem is recongnized as one of North Dakota's pre-eminent
dairy centers."
