W'eel, the World's Largest
Turtle
Dunseith, North Dakota, USA
"World's largest man-made turtle was erected as
a novelty tourist attraction in 1982 by George Gottbreht, owner of Dale's
Thrifty Barn, a convenience store, restaurant, and motel. The W'eel Turtle
consists of over 2,000 steel w'eels and stands two stories tall. The head
weighs 1-ton and moves. It is located 12 miles from the International
Peace Garden and 30 miles from Boissevain, Manitoba, home of the world-renowned
Turtle Derby. It is truly magnificent and a sight to see as it salutes
the Turtle Mountains."
